Introduce clearly contemporary pieces — an upholstered bed with a tall curved headboard in a textured ochre weave, a pair of modern bedside tables in pale timber and brass, a low bench in a bold patterned fabric at the foot. Layer textiles generously: a patterned rug, heavy lined curtains with a contemporary leading edge trim, a throw and mixed cushions. Hang a group of framed prints salon-style on one wall against the period panelling. Keep the palette warm and slightly unexpected — ochre, dusty rose, deep teal, aged brass.
