Design park seating that is not furniture at all but a piece of retaining structure doing a second job. Show a long low wall holding back a raised lawn, its height set at four hundred and fifty millimetres above the lower paving and flush with the turf behind, so it reads as ground on one side and as a seat on the other. Detail the wall as board-formed concrete with the timber grain and board joints clearly legible across its face, the boards laid horizontally and their lines running continuously for the wall's whole length. Show the top as capped by a broad hardwood coping, wider than the wall itself so it oversails slightly on both sides, its outer edge rounded from wear and its surface warm against the cool grey concrete. Detail the wall as changing height gradually as the ground falls, so at one end it stands a metre and a half and is clearly a wall, and at the other it dies into the paving and is clearly a step. Show people sitting along the stretch where it happens to be the right height. Set it in a terraced park with lawn above and paved plaza below. Show low sun grazing the board-formed texture.
