Show the underside of a Taiwanese temple eave from below, where structure and decoration compress into a dense band. Render, from the wall outward: the beam ends with carved and painted decoration, then the bracket clusters stepping out in two or three tiers with carved arms and small blocks, then the exposed rafter ends in a close rhythm, and finally the tile drip course at the outer edge against the sky. Detail the painted work on the flat surfaces — cobalt, jade, coral and gold patterns on the beam faces and the boards between rafters — darkened unevenly by decades of incense soot and weather. Show the deep shadow the eave casts, with the outer members brilliantly lit by reflected ground light and the inner recesses almost black. Include a hanging lantern and part of a stone column entering the frame. Shoot from directly below looking up along the eave so the layers compress dramatically. Photorealistic, dense, richly coloured and deeply shadowed, upward view.
