Design an undulating market canopy in the manner of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, laid as a new roof over the shell of an old masonry market hall. Show a large freely curving surface rolling in three great waves across the plan, its edges cut irregularly and lifted at the corners, carried on a hybrid frame of laminated timber arches and branching tubular steel that spreads like a canopy of boughs inside. Detail the upper surface as a mosaic of small hexagonal glazed ceramic tiles in some sixty colours — reds, oranges, greens, yellows — arranged into a pixelated pattern of fruit and vegetables, so the roof reads from above as a market stall spread out flat. Show the underside as warm pale timber boarding following every curve, daylight entering through irregular openings cut through the surface. Detail the retained old brick facade with its arched openings surviving along one side, the new roof clearly sitting apart from it rather than resting on it. Set it in a tight medieval urban block with narrow streets running up to it. Show bright daylight so the glazed tiles glint.
