Design the ground beneath a pedestrian bridge's ramp and stair structure, the space that usually becomes dead. Show the area under the sloping ramp soffit given a genuine use rather than a fence: a sheltered bike and scooter parking bay with racks aligned to the falling soffit so the low end holds bikes and the high end stands clear, its floor a resin-bound surface with clear markings. Detail the soffit above as clean fair-faced concrete, uplit by a run of concealed fittings so the underside glows and the space feels open rather than sinister. Show planting where the soffit is too low for use — a bed of shade-tolerant ferns and ophiopogon with a low kerb, dense enough to prevent loitering without needing a barrier. Include a drinking fountain, a bin and clear sightlines right through the space with nothing solid at eye level. Detail the street edge as fully open with no railing, so the space is visible and passively watched. Show daytime with people parking bikes.
