Design a resort pool garden in the manner of Bill Bensley, exuberant and densely planted. Surround a pool of deep emerald tiles with layer upon layer of tropical planting — towering travellers palms, clusters of heliconia and ginger in scarlet and orange, dense ferns at ground level, and vines spilling from raised planters — so the built edges almost disappear into vegetation. Add strong colour and pattern in the hard landscape: hand-painted tile risers on the pool steps, striped canvas umbrellas and daybeds, glazed ceramic pots in cobalt and turquoise. Include eccentric collected objects placed among the planting: an antique urn, a weathered statue, a birdcage on a stand. Keep the paving in a warm patterned stone or terracotta laid in a bold geometry. Show a shaded pavilion at one end with a deep overhang and coloured lanterns hanging. Light the scene in bright tropical midday with strong dappled shade. Photorealistic, saturated, dense and theatrical, eye-level view across the pool.
