Design the canopy of a pedestrian overpass as a partial cover rather than a full enclosure. Show a run of slim curved steel ribs at regular centres springing from the parapet on both sides and meeting overhead, carrying a roof of standing-seam metal along the centre and translucent polycarbonate along the two outer bands, so the walkway centre stays shaded while daylight enters from each side. Leave the sides completely open between parapet and roof, with only a deep overhang keeping rain off, so cross-breeze passes and the bridge does not become an oven. Detail the roof edge with a slim gutter integrated into the rib line and a downpipe concealed within one column at each end. Show the ribs painted a light warm grey and the underside of the metal roof lined with a perforated acoustic panel to soften traffic noise. Detail the deck below in textured epoxy with a tactile strip. Show heavy rain falling with the walkway dry and water sheeting off the eaves.
