Design park seating cut directly into a grass slope rather than placed upon it. Show a series of long horizontal terraces stepping up the hillside, each riser faced in a low retaining wall and each tread wide enough to sit on with legs stretched out, so the slope itself becomes seating for perhaps forty people without a single bench appearing. Detail the risers as split-faced stone laid in courses of varying height, their faces rough and their coping stones smooth and rounded from use, so the sitting edge is comfortable while the wall face stays rugged. Show the treads as alternating between mown turf and a strip of timber decking, the timber placed only where the sun falls longest and the grass would wear out. Detail the terraces as curving gently in plan to follow the natural contour rather than cutting straight across it, their ends dying into the slope so the intervention has no hard boundary. Show people sitting scattered across several levels at different heights, all facing the same way down the hill. Set it facing a lake with a park and city skyline beyond.
