Design a waterfront urban canopy in the manner of Norman Foster, reduced to one horizontal plane and nothing else. Show a flat rectangular slab about forty metres long hovering just over five metres above the quay on eight extremely slim steel columns, its edge tapering to a blade so fine the plane reads as a sheet of foil rather than a roof. Detail the soffit as mirror-polished stainless steel, perfectly flat and seamless, so the whole underside becomes an inverted image of the quay — the paving, the moored boats, the market stalls and every passing figure reappearing upside down overhead. Show the top surface as plain matte grey and deliberately unremarkable, so all the drama is reserved for what happens underneath. Detail the columns as bare cylinders with no capitals and no bracing, spaced widely so the space beneath stays entirely open and walkable. Set it on a stone-paved harbour edge with fishing boats, a forest of masts and a row of nineteenth-century facades behind. Show bright coastal sun so the mirrored soffit blazes with reflected water light. Photorealistic, reflective, silver and sea blue, low view looking up into the mirror.
