Material Experiments in Bathrooms: Patina, Lime, and Rough Stone

Render a Taiwanese bathroom composed from three raw materials meeting each other honestly. Finish the walls in tadelakt-style polished lime plaster in a warm sand tone, its surface faintly undulating with a soft waxy sheen and subtle tonal clouding. Set the basin as a hammered solid brass vessel that has been allowed to develop a green-brown patina, sitting on a rough-hewn stone slab with a split face and visible chisel marks on its front edge. Run the shower area in a split-face grey stone with deep relief, wet and dark where the water lands. Use unlacquered brass fittings that will continue to age, already showing fingerprint darkening around the handles. Keep the floor in large tumbled stone tiles with slightly rounded edges. Add a rough linen towel on a leather strap and a single beeswax candle. Show one shaft of hard daylight from a small high window crossing the room and landing on the plaster.
