Design a hotel lounge in the manner of Ilse Crawford, planned so that guests want to stay rather than pass through. Break the room into several small settings rather than one grand space: a pair of armchairs by a window, a long communal table under a low pendant, a fireside group with a rug, a window seat with cushions. Use warm honest materials throughout — oiled oak, cork, wool, unbleached linen, terracotta, aged brass — with no gloss, no chrome and no marble. Keep the lighting almost entirely at table and floor level with warm shaded lamps, leaving the ceiling dark and unlit. Add a long shelf of real books and objects that look collected rather than styled, plants in terracotta, and a tray with glasses and a water jug. Furnish with pieces that show wear: leather with patina, timber with marks. Keep the colour palette warm and low-saturation — clay, ochre, moss, oatmeal. Show early evening with lamps on and daylight fading. Photorealistic, warm, soft and inhabited, eye-level view across the settings.
