Cast Bronze: Contemporary Forms in a Classical Material

Design a contemporary public sculpture in cast bronze, using the oldest sculptural material for a wholly modern form. Show an abstract mass around four metres tall, its geometry a smooth folded plane turning through itself like a ribbon caught mid-twist, with no figurative reference at all. Detail the bronze surface in two contrasting treatments across the same object: the outer convex faces polished to a warm golden sheen where hands and weather have kept them bright, and the concave hollows left with a rich dark brown-green patina, deeper and blacker in the recesses, so the form's geometry is described by its colouring. Show the casting evidence honestly rather than hidden: fine parting lines from the mould running along two edges, and the subtle texture of the original modelling still legible across the broader surfaces. Detail the metal's thickness at the free edges, perhaps fifteen millimetres, revealing that the mass is hollow. Show the base as a low block of dark honed granite with a shadow gap between it and the bronze. Detail verdigris beginning to streak down the granite where rain has carried it.
