Uplifted Paving: Strip Seating Growing from the Ground

Design elevated park seating in the manner of James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, in which the paving itself becomes the furniture. Show a walkway surfaced in long tapered precast concrete planks laid in parallel, and at intervals show individual planks peeling upward off the ground plane — rising in a smooth continuous curve, lifting clear of the deck and levelling out into a seat — so a bench appears without ever being a separate object. Detail the peeled planks as retaining exactly the same width, colour and surface as the planks still lying flat, with the joint lines running uninterrupted from ground into seat, and the underside of each lifted plank left open and shadowed. Show a warm hardwood insert set into the top surface of the seat only, the single moment where a different material appears. Detail the opposite ends of other planks as tapering into fingers that comb into ornamental grasses growing between them, so the paving dissolves into planting at one edge and into seating at the other. Set it on a linear elevated park with tall city buildings pressing close. Show low afternoon sun raking along the planks. Photorealistic, integrated, pale concrete and dry grasses, low perspective along the walkway.
