Design a restaurant in a deliberately arrested state of decay. Show walls where successive layers of paint, wallpaper and plaster have been partially stripped and then simply stopped and sealed — patches of bare brick, a fragment of floral wallpaper, an area of blue distemper, a ghost of a removed staircase — the whole reading as an archaeological surface rather than a finish. Detail the ceiling with sections of lath exposed where plaster has fallen, the laths left in place and cleaned. Show the new interventions as unmistakably new and precise: a crisp bar of blackened steel and glass, slim black lighting tracks, and clean modern chairs, all clearly placed within the ruin rather than restoring it.
