Sculptural Boutique Hotel Lobby: Material Clash

Design a boutique hotel lobby in the manner of Kelly Wearstler, where bold materials collide deliberately. Combine a heavily veined dramatic marble on a monolithic reception desk with a rough plaster wall, a burl timber panel, blackened steel and a brass mesh screen — five strong materials in one view, made to work through scale and placement rather than restraint. Introduce sculptural furniture as objects: an oversized curved sofa in a deep ochre mohair, a pair of carved timber chairs with exaggerated forms, and a low table that is clearly a sculpture first. Add a large abstract ceramic piece on a plinth and a graphic patterned floor in inlaid stone. Keep the palette rich but disciplined: ochre, oxblood, bronze, charcoal and cream.
