The Drama of Arrival: Axis, Water, and Framed Views

Design a luxury resort arrival lobby in the manner of Jean-Michel Gathy, staged for maximum drama on a single axis. Compose a long symmetrical approach: a high dark corridor with a low ceiling that suddenly opens into a soaring double-height hall, so compression gives way to release. Place a still reflecting pool directly on the axis, its far edge disappearing so it reads as continuous with the sea or valley beyond, framed by a vast rectangular opening cut in the end wall. Line the walls in dark timber screens with a fine vertical rhythm and the floor in a dark honed stone reflecting the opening. Keep furniture minimal and monumental: two enormous low sofas placed symmetrically, a single oversized ceramic vessel on the axis. Hang nothing on the walls. Light warmly and sparingly from concealed sources so the framed view is always the brightest thing. Show late afternoon with the sun low in the framed opening. Photorealistic, dramatic, symmetrical and cinematic, eye-level view straight down the axis.
