Deep Eaves Canopy: Oblique Shading from Southeast Asian Monsoon Rains

Design an urban canopy for a monsoon climate, where rain arrives sideways as often as it falls. Show a steeply pitched roof with very deep overhangs on all four sides, the eaves reaching some three metres beyond the supports and dropping low, so the sheltered zone extends well past the structure's footprint and driving rain cannot reach the middle. Detail the roof as clay tiles in a dark unglazed red laid on exposed hardwood rafters, the rafter ends left projecting and cut square at the eave so the depth of the overhang is legible from below. Show a second smaller roof floating above a gap at the ridge, the two separated by an open slot that lets hot air escape and admits a band of daylight down the centre. Detail the supports as heavy dark hardwood posts on stone pad footings, raised clear of the wet ground. Show the underside as exposed timber structure with the tile battens visible between rafters. Set it over an open paved gathering space with lush tropical planting pressing in and a rain-darkened sky. Show heavy rain falling beyond the eaves with dry ground beneath.
