Bush-Hammered Granite: Tool Marks Left on Stone

Design a public sculpture carved from a single granite block, in which the working of the stone is the subject. Show one massive block roughly three metres in every dimension, its overall form a simple geometric solid — a cube with one face hollowed into a deep smooth bowl, or a sphere emerging incompletely from a rough cube. Detail the contrast between finishes as the whole composition: the carved hollow honed to a silky matte perfection with no tool mark visible at all, while the surrounding stone is left in three cruder states — a bush-hammered zone of dense small pits, a pointed-chisel zone of coarse parallel gouges, and an entirely raw quarry face still bearing the half-round scars of the drill holes used to split it. Show the transitions between these zones as deliberate and legible, arranged in bands so the sequence from raw to finished can be read as a process. Detail the granite as a mid grey with black and white crystal flecking, the colour deepening noticeably in the polished hollow. Show rainwater standing in the bowl as a small still mirror. Set it in a park on a gravel bed with low planting. Show soft overcast light. Photorealistic, tactile, grey granite with varied texture, low three-quarter view.
